Plate Atlas
A game for iPhone about spotting license plates. Coming soon to the App Store.
- FreeOptional tips through Apple. They don't unlock anything.
- Your log stays with youEvery plate you log is saved on your iPhone and nowhere else.
- You're in controlExport your data, or delete one plate or all of it, any time.
Privacy
Data Not Collected. That's what the App Store privacy label says. No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code.
What's saved on your iPhone
The app keeps a few things in its own private storage. They never leave your device.
- The plates you log: the region (state, province, or territory), the date you spotted it, and an optional note.
- A location for a plate, but only if you choose to attach one.
- Which achievements you've already seen celebrated, so the app doesn't show them twice.
Your iCloud or computer backups may include this data, which Apple controls. Deleting the app deletes it. I can't see any of it.
Please don't log plate numbers
The app has no field for plate numbers on purpose. Please don't type one into a note, either. A plate number with a date and a place can identify someone's car.
Location
Location is optional. The app only asks for "While Using the App" permission when you tap "Attach Current Location." It grabs your location once and never tracks you in the background.
Those coordinates are saved with that one plate, on your device. You can remove them by editing the plate, or turn off the permission in Settings.
Maps
The Map tab uses Apple Maps. Like any app that shows an Apple map, Apple receives requests for the map tiles you're looking at. Your plates and locations are never sent to Apple.
Tips
Tips go through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles the payment, so I never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account. I only get sales totals.
Your controls
- Delete a single plate in the Log tab, or everything with About > Delete All Data.
- Export My Data saves a file of all your plates, including notes and locations, wherever you choose.
- Share Progress makes an image with just your totals and which regions you've found. No dates, notes, or locations. Nothing goes anywhere until you pick where to share it.
Crash reports
The app doesn't collect any. If you've turned on "Share With App Developers" in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send me anonymous crash and performance reports. I can't tell who you are from them.
Kids
The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
For the technically curious
The app's privacy manifest declares no tracking, no tracking domains, and no collected data. It lists one "required reason" API: UserDefaults, the app's local settings, used only to remember which achievements you've already seen celebrated.
